OK, I'm reading it again, and I see it as this:

Each person pays $10 but gets $1 back for a total paid of $27...

$9 x 3 = $27 paid for pizza & tip
$1 x 3 = $ 3 rec'd back in change
$30 total

The $27 is inclusive of the $2 tip so the

$27 + $2 is a misstatement...still not a missing dollar -

Could I be right? I'll pass this on to a friend - it'll drive her nuts. Thanks, Legs
