Digital Microwave, HSE Communications Deliver Broadband Fixed
Wireless Access Solution for Major Service Provider

Partners Deliver 155-Mbps Backbone for MMDS Network Near
Colorado Springs, Allow Provider to Meet Growing Demands for
High-Speed Data Access

ATLANTA, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Microwave Corporation
(Nasdaq: DMIC - news), one of the world's foremost solutions
providers of broadband wireless access, and HSE
Communications, Inc., a leading VAR specializing in
installation and maintenance of wireless communications
systems, today announced the installation of an ultra-high-
speed wireless network for a major U.S. telecommunications
service provider. The new network will support broadband
wireless services for initially up to 5,000 multi-channel,
multi-point distribution system (MMDS) customers in the
Colorado Springs, Colo., area.

Digital Microwave (DMC), which will change its company name
to DMC Stratex Networks in August, is an independent wireless
solutions provider with a leading market share in the
broadband fixed wireless access and mobile wireless solutions
markets. Its industry-leading wireless access solutions will
be on display at Supercomm in its booth No. 6645 during the
show this week. HSE Communications is a leading VAR focused
on delivering wireless radio equipment and services to
providers in the Western Plains and Rocky Mountain states.

HSE is installing an 11-GHz space-diversity wireless backbone
network at the major broadband service provider's point of
presence hub office. The MMDS network delivering 155-Mbps
wireless OC-3 fiber speeds utilizes DMC's award-winning
Altium(TM) system. The new installation upgrades the previous
network with five-times the wireless capacity, allowing the
service provider to meet users' growing demands for high-
speed data access and accommodate its anticipated initial
5,000 new data customers. Before the DMC and HSE deployment,
the service provider's network using 30-Mbps video microwave
technology was adequate because few end users required data-
access services.

``Our customer needed the fastest and most reliable
communications backbone link to connect to its MMDS network
and upgrade from video to digital broadband delivery, so we
turned to our established partner DMC,'' said David Otey, HSE
new market development director. ``DMC responded quickly and
delivered a cost-effective solution for the system,
calculated to exceed eight-nines (99.999999) percent of
reliability. Because of the flexibility of the Altium and the
relatively dry Rocky Mountain region, the use of the 11 GHz
frequency spectrum allows for longer radio links at
155-Mbps capacity. This space-diversity project is expected
to serve as a model in this spectrum for systems in Denver
and other areas.''

The new network solution is located on Colorado's Cheyenne
Mountain. Wireless is the only option for delivering the
necessary capacity in geographic areas such as this where
laying fiber cables is impractical, time consuming and cost
prohibitive. This installation is the first space-diversity
Altium 155-Mbps wireless system in the 11 GHz frequency band,
and utilizes frequency spectrum of only 28-MHz wide, allowing
for greater efficiency in frequency assignment. A space-
diversity radio link employs two smaller antennas at each end
of the connection instead of a single larger antenna,
delivering improved reliability at a lower cost.

The digital broadband solution was made possible by HSE's
established relationship with the major service provider, and
was on-line for customers under budget and within 3 1/2
months, a significant accomplishment for a project of this
magnitude. It delivers OC-3 speed while utilizing only three
1-3/4 inch rack units, making physical expansion of the
service provider's shelter at the tower site unnecessary,
saving time and money for the provider.

``HSE is a leading VAR partner of DMC, and we are pleased to
come through for them again and deliver a leading wireless
access solution for their major customer in such a timely
manner,'' said Sam Smookler, DMC president and CEO. ``HSE has
done an outstanding job to respond to this opportunity so
quickly, including conducting site surveys for the difficult
geographic area and completing all logistics within tight
timeline and budget constraints. Our team effort furthers our
excellent, long-standing relationship.''

With headquarters in San Jose, Calif., Digital Microwave is
