That's not the way I read this article - looks to me like they are favoring GSM for now. totaltele.com "China United Telecommunications Corp. (Unicom) has scaled down plans for a national CDMA network, as government officials push for the early implementation of third-generation (3G) cellular networks on the mainland. The second Chinese carrier's long-delayed code division multiple access service will be confined to cities where Unicom does not already operate GSM services, abandoning plans for a nationwide cdmaOne network with initial capacity for 10 million subscribers by the end of 2000."
