hi mag,
imo it is credible for a software manufacturer to point a finger at other widely used programs as a possible source of problems, but they'd better be pointing the finger at themselves as well. for instance, si used to be fond of saying that various problems were due to using the netscape browser. that never sat too well with me in that si should write their code to conform to the browser and not the other way around.
i recognize that some software has probs with antivirus programs. that's common knowledge. but if a manufacturer recommends removing an entire utility suite from your system because it may conflict with their product, i'm thinking that something isn't quite right.
anyway, at the risk of belaboring a point (too late for that, you say? <g3>), let me remind you that a norton uninstall is not necessary where you could be merely disabling components. it follows then that if you have removed norton programs from your startup routine and the crashes remain, uninstalling the product will not produce different results.
use 'misconfig' in the run command, then click 'startup' tab to view and remove programs. remember to 'apply'.
also, open the norton systemworks integrator on your desktop. open the nu component and choose 'options' at the bottom. there you'll see what you have designated to run at startup. for av, open the component, select 'options', then the 'auto-protect' tab, then uncheck the 'load auto-protect at startup' box.
imo, only the av and cg components could be causing conflicts.
and if, as you say, you've been there, done that, i apologize for all the repetition.
:)
