Canadian Government sold 68,000 oz of gold in May
Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Jun. 05, 2000 (Resource News International via COMTEX) -- WINNIPEG, MB, June 5, 2000 (RNI) -- The Canadian government sold 68,000 ounces of gold from the country's international reserves in May, the Canadian Department of Finance reported. As of May 31, national gold reserves stood at 1.3 million ounces.
The gold in reserve was valued at US$364 million. This was down from the April values of US$387 million, but well above gold holdings values at $103 million at the same time a year ago.
Canada's total international reserves, which include US dollars, other foreign currencies, special drawing rights and a reserve position in the IMF, was US$29.595 billion on May 31, down from the $30,430 billion a month earlier. At the same time last year, total reserves were $25.201 billion. END
