Marcelo - I see MARKETING the new machines as the greatest risk in SGI right now. Second is production. However there have been two major changes which are at least positive signs. I am hoping they pay off but it is going to take perhaps two quarters to determine this. #1 is a company-wide information management system. Since they did not have one in the past, it's not surprising that sales did't know what is happening sometimes. #2 is the recent management shakeup. McCracken "kicked the sleeping dogs" so we will see what a difference this makes.

But quite honestly, after dealing with a lot of other hardware vendors I think SGI has been better than average on the sales side and worse than average on the marketing side. I had very good rapport with my old salesman who left in '95. If I needed to know some technical things he couldn't answer, on occasion he set up a breakfast or lunch meeting with his sales support techie who was located an hour's drive away. I considered myself to be "small fry" in sales and he was really going out of his way for me. None of the other hardware vendors I've dealt with in the past did this even once (ie. DEC, HWP, Sun).

Regards
Jeff
