This approach, like EMC's has one very important shortcoming. What it does do is pool storage so that you can have a mix of Unix and Windows servers accessing a pool of Unix and Windows data.

What it does not do is take care of the security issues to allow a Windows server/client to access the same physical file(s) as a Unix server/client.

So the storage capacity is pooled for a heterogeneous environment but the files are not available heterogeneously.
