Mr. David Caulfield reports
Exploration crews will be mobilized to Rimfire Minerals and Western Keltic
Minerals' jointly owned California and Surf properties in east-central
Alaska, during the week of June 5. The properties are located east of
Teck/Sumitomo's Pogo gold deposit (10.6 million tons grading 0.53 ounces
per ton gold). The two-phase, $500,000 program is designed to follow up
favourable results obtained in 1999. The 1999 exploration program was
successful in confirming the presence of Pogo-style mineralization on the
properties. Rock sampling yielded high-grade gold values up to 24.8 grams
per tonne (0.72 ounce per ton) and together with large, open-ended gold and
pathfinder element soil geochemical anomalies suggest the presence of a
potentially large mineralizing system. Large areas of the 70-square-mile
property are still to be explored.
Phase 1 of the 2000 field program is designed to increase the density of
sampling in both the Boundary and Southeast Surf areas, to better-define
existing anomalies and to optimize placement of drill holes. Detailed
mapping, infill soil sampling and grid-based ground magnetic and VLF
surveys will be conducted on the Boundary and Southeast Surf anomalies. The
phase 2 program will consist of a diamond drilling program at the Boundary
anomaly. Phase 2 will commence once the results from phase 1 are received
and compiled.
Rimfire and Western Keltic each hold a 50-per-cent interest in the
properties. Western Keltic, financed by Barrick Gold Corporation, can earn
an additional 30-per-cent interest in the properties by issuing shares and
conducting $4.5-million in exploration expenditures.
