Hi Kemble,

Sorry 'bout the rain...wish we had some here actually to cool things down a bit...much too blistering for my liking lately.

Thought it was about time when I heard the India announcement. Glad you remember the conversation we had. If you'll recall, I mentioned that among the international brands Compaq, IBM, and HP were all over the place in India, and no one had even heard of DELL. HP even had their own mini-stores that sold their entire line of products. And Compaq was very aggressive in regular computer stores.

There are a couple of domestic brands, HCL (Hindustan Computers Limited) and WIPRO (with major backing from Acer in Taiwan)that dominate market share. But unlike China, the economy is a market economy that is free to compete similar to the United States, therefore the domestic companies will not be allowed to monopolize the market like Legend has done in China.

I also like the demographics: the Indian middle class is fairly wealthy and is just starting to learn the fine art of consumer spending on luxury goods that had been absent before <G>. And the size of the middle class is more than the entire population of Germany.

Bottom line, if DELL can succeed in China profitably despite the odds, I don't see how they can NOT make India a tremendous success. I have full confidence that they can.

Best Wishes,

Sam
