Frank - regarding the broadcast I watched.
I have a small in home business. We have 4 computers on a 10/100 baseT net. 2 of the computers share one ATHM account using their own 4 port 10/100 baseT hub. I think the NICs on some machines are 10.

My computer is Intel PentiumII 333 with 64 megs of ram.

So I am watching the Europe NFL football game over the weekend and they mention that the game is being webcast at some url. My computer was right next to me so I punched up the url and they gave me a 4x4 window that showed the live broadcast. It was a real kick. The web version was about 20-30 seconds behind the cable TV version. The web picture was a little darker than the TV version and the frame rate was a little slower (probably 15/sec) but it was very acceptable and surprisingly smooth. Very few freezes. Sound quality great. I let it run for about 45 minutes. Nobody else on the net but me. I remember when fox experimented with this for news a long time ago (a year or more ago) but the window was half the size and the quality worse.

Now I am going to try something new. There are places you can go to on the web that will record TV shows for you (for free). You then come back when you want and have your show played back for you over the web. I am going to try them out. If there is a show I want to see and the quality was as good as the sports shows, I will use them a lot.

The reason I am impressed is because the quality was so good. I don't know if they used RNWK on their server or not but my understanding is that you need to do something on the server end to keep a smooth transmission. I am not a technical person, perhaps you can tell us, but I imagine you can adjust the delivery of your frame rate on the server with live events to insure a continuous stream of images. The user would probably not notice it unless the frame rate went way down.
