TAIPEI, June 5, 2000 HK PRNewswire-AsiaNet - Acer (OTC: ACEHF) today announced its newest desktop models which fully support the Intel Pentium III processor at 1GHz, thereby giving its customers the world's highest-performance microprocessors for PCs. The announcement sees Acer take a lead in implementing solutions that maximize gains from the new processor's peak performance.
Based on today's most current industry benchmarks, such as SPECint2000 and SPECfp2000, the Pentium III processor's performance is 15 per cent higher than that of the fastest processors currently on the market. When combined with the performance of Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 2000 Professional, Acer's customers can expect to benefit from the significant increase in processing power.
Vincent Cho, PC Product Line Management AVP, said today's announcement was a great day for customers looking for the highest standards of performance.
"Acer has designed its latest PCs to take advantage of the new 1GHz processing power," he said. "Customers will be ecstatic, because our solution delivers the world's best processor, enabling them to maintain their lead with the latest cutting edge technology."
The AcerPower 8800 and the Veriton 7100 are Acer's first two products to support the new chip technology. The AP8800 is a high-end business-focused system based on the Intel 820 AGP chipset. With up to 512MB of PC-800 RDRAM memory, and the new Pentium III processor, the system is optimized for power users working with professional design and simulation software. Alternatively, the AP8800 is powerful enough to operate as an entry-level server, supporting email or Internet requirements.
The Veriton 7100, with its ample SDRAM, embedded Ethernet solution, and graphics and audio functionality, is perfectly suited for today's media-heavy business software and Internet sites.
T.Y. Lay, President of Acer's Branded Business Unit, added: "By using the Pentium III processor at 1GHz from Intel, Acer yet again delivers to its customers a leading technology product that meets their requirements. Users continue to benefit from Acer's reliable high performance systems which we produce via our world wide manufacturing, logistics, service and support infrastructure."
