Kenneth - I've been thinking about Barnes today and I believe that the recent analyst earnings est. increase for 12/97 from $1.80 to $1.98 is beginning to take into consideration a reduction in shares outstanding due to company repurchase. IF Barnes repurchases the maximum shares (1,500,000) the company would reduce the shares out by ~9%. I strongly believe this repurchase program has begun. Now the question arises - How high is the co. willing pay in light of the advancing stock price? At these level the co. will continue to by more, but during the balance of the year they would surprise me if they paid over 15X 1997 est EPS ($29). With this in mind I will guess that Barnes will trade for over $30 per share sometime during June or July assuming that the stock market remains intact.
Regards,
Gary
