Republic Mortgage Insurance Co. Selects StarTeam to Manage All Web Application Development June 6, 2000 08:35 AM Eastern Time SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2000--
Starbase Professional Services Group Implements Complete Digital Asset Management System
Starbase Corp. SBAS , the leading provider of collaboration products for the creation and management of integrated code and content eBusiness applications, Tuesday announced that Republic Mortgage Insurance Co. (RMIC), a national private mortgage insurer and subsidiary of Old Republic International ORI , selected StarTeam to manage the entire Web-based application development process for the North Carolina-based insurer.
RMIC purchased 50 StarTeam licenses in addition to on-site training and implementation services provided by Starbase's Professional Services Group.
"Initially, we were going to just test the waters with StarTeam, but when we saw what StarTeam could do for us in terms of productivity and improved processes, we realized we needed to employ it across the entire enterprise, including all code and content development projects," stated Andrew Burhans, software engineering manager at RMIC. "StarTeam is tremendously effective and is exceeding our expectations in terms of return on investment."
RMIC provides leading edge technology products that can enable consumers of mortgage insurance and related mortgage services to increase their competitive advantage and position in the marketplace. By leveraging efficiencies gained through the innovative application of Internet software tools, RMIC supplies their customers with the power and flexibility of an eBusiness.
"The process of rapidly creating eBusiness solutions that meet our customers' needs in an accurate and timely manner requires a robust development solution and process from early lifecycle analysis through maintenance and change management activities," stated Deron Streitenberger, CIO of RMIC. "StarTeam is the only tool we identified that fit our needs for full lifecycle support. In addition, most of the competing products miss the mark on ease of use and core competency focus, restricting the ability of a corporate IT department to implement their solution, and end-users from gaining substantial direct benefits. StarTeam has hit the mark on these key topics and is a major part of our eBusiness development strategy."
Before adopting StarTeam, RMIC's code and content development process was not automated. Because each group involved in the development process used a different software tool to aid in development, collaboration between team members was challenging. Starbase Professional Services provided eBusiness expertise to help define RMIC's requirements. StarTeam's multi-platform integration capabilities enabled each group to continue using the development tools they preferred, and the extensive collaboration environment enabled increased communication between team members. Eager to realize the increased development efficiency, RMIC stepped up their deployment schedule of StarTeam and expanded the implementation across the enterprise to manage all Web code and content development efforts.
"StarTeam delivers robust management capabilities and productivity enhancing features, providing a true technological competitive advantage," stated Lydia Patterson, vice president Starbase products group. "In addition, the Starbase Professional Services Group designs and implements solutions to support organizations that require best-of-breed digital asset management systems that increase efficiency, productivity and profits."
At RMIC, service representatives use StarTeam to answer questions for customers. Project managers and help desk personnel use StarTeam's central repository and version control to instantly learn project status. StarTeam's robust versioning features also improved software documentation accuracy and timeliness. With StarTeam controlling the documentation process, RMIC's internal and external customers receive the most up to date and accurate information about their application.
Burhans also stated, "Starbase Professional Services provided much more than just simple training on the nuts and bolts of StarTeam. We were guided through each step required to integrate our current development methodologies into processes supported and enforced by StarTeam. These processes included business requirements, design, quality assurance, deployment and support. Our Starbase Professional Services Group consultant, with a thorough grounding in development processes for both code and Web content, became a project leader for the team. By employing professional services we were able to speed up the return on our investment by ensuring that the StarTeam solution was implemented, and did not become 'shelf-ware,' as can sometimes happen with a feature rich solution."
