Mike,
<< He writes, "Is CDMA a better standard for wireless telephony [than] GSM? 'Who cares?' reply the partners -- we can only support one, and so Qualcomm licenses CDMA to Ericsson for a combined G3 standard." >>
The real answer of course is that at the time he rewrote the FM he did not know the answer.
<< Gotta love it >>
Yes. I am sure in their introductory session Nokia explained who the REAL "wireless telephony" market leaders were (with the manual open to the page you describe.
As to having Nokia as a client, the value for readers is that he gains some exposure to wireless, and over the long haul will potentially be able to offer more insightful comments on the category.
In his first three books, the fact that while he may have had a client that exposed him to a technology category or discontinuous innovation within a category, that did not appear to earn that client any special treatment in his analytical approach to the category.
As to the list Tek published, the only thing wrong with the wireless category is that curious nomenclature "gorilla leader" which after hearing Tek's conjecture and reviewing the list, I would take to mean "gorilla" or "leader"."Market leader" would have been more appropriate, IMO, for that list.
Between writing, consulting, and speaking, Moore sure is a pretty prolific guy. I suspect this makes it difficult to stay as much on top of technology to the degree he did in the eighties & nineties, particularly with the pace of technology change today.
