Terry The AV slowing the data inflow makes perfect sense. I am hoping that turning it off and not taking norton off machine will turn the trick. I really like the norton tools: disk doctor and scan disk. Crash test dummy update: Last night I put up the newest version of Ensign (trading software). Also flushed the news folders and daily quote files (after backing up). The machine made it through the night with no problems. A few more nights like this and I think I can take the patient out of the critical ward. ;-) ht Mag
