hi mag,

what seems ideal for your situation is if you can shut off the virus protection component during the evening when you receive your data. then, after the data is stored but prior to running your machine, perform a virus scan.

this is not unlike the concept of downloading any file you like onto your hard drive, but then right-clicking on the file and selecting 'scan with norton antivirus' prior to opening and installing the file. one has only to think of the process as twofold (download and install) to clearly see at what point the damage can be done, and where the opportunity for prevention exists.

if your data transfer does not give you this ability, i'd still stick with the idea of running a scan before using your machine.

although you are attempting to run down a system problem here, what this is beginning to evolve into is a question of how comfortable do you feel about virus protection, or the lack thereof.

glad to hear the patient had a good night <g3>

good luck

:)
