Jim Not only that but Willy effectively kills Timna as Coppermine becomes the value chip and it scales a lot better than Timna ever will.
Intel should have taken a lesson from the Mhz Sells concept (TM-McMannis) an not used resources to develop a low MHz chip for the low end. If your going to spend the money, spend it on a new high end chip.

Jim, I believe the success of AMD and it Athlon processor caught Intel off guard (how dare that upstart company challenge that Goliath of a corporation). AMD has caused Intel to race forward with some not so well thought out plans. Intel now finds itself changing its roadmap every few weeks to counter AMD. Unfortunately, in this business, it takes weeks, months and even years to bring such high tech products to market. If they don't get their act together soon, I wouldn't want to be in the way when the Goliath trips and falls all over itself.
Timna is probably history, and I don't see how all those research dollars wouldn't have at least a small impact. I guess they could still try to compete with Via for the very low end, but hey, here at AMD central we could care less about that low margin arena.
