Imation Showcases Newly Developed Jiro-based Software At JavaOne Conference; Demonstrations Highlight Imation's Enterprise-Capable Software Development Skills and Expertise
OAKDALE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2000--Following its recently announced alliance with Sun Microsystems to develop Jiro(TM)-enabled storage applications, Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) today demonstrated newly-developed software components based on Jiro technology.
The two software components developed at Imation allow Sun RAID devices to interoperate with Jiro-enabled storage management software and network devices. These components, called FederatedBeans(TM)components, provide the distributed Java(TM) object technology that is the basis of Jiro technology. FederatedBeans components are an essential part of the Jiro technology automated storage allocation demonstration being shown and discussed at the JavaOne(SM) 2000 conference, Sun's Worldwide Java Developer Conference(SM) June 6-9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco
The integration demonstration utilizes policy bean software developed by Imation, as well as additional FederatedBeans components developed by Sun, Ancor and Veritas. Using these pieces, an infinite disk policy bean is created to allocate storage on an as needed basis to applications.
The FederatedBeans components designed by Imation were built specifically to address the needs of storage application developers and storage integrators who assemble modular storage solutions. The demonstration described above is built from a typical SAN hardware and software component available from a variety of hardware and software vendors. A second demonstration, performed at the Jiro technology community booth at the JavaOne conference, highlights all the capabilities of the Imation-developed components, as well as additional vendors' FederatedBeans components.
"The components and demonstrations on display at the JavaOne conference highlight both the potential of Jiro technology, as well as Imation's skills and expertise in SAN hardware and software storage solutions," said Bradley Rubin, Ph.D., chief technology officer for Imation Data Storage and Information Management. "We are on target to deliver new solutions in cooperation with Sun and to develop additional SAN initiatives using Jiro technology and a variety of SAN technologies."
Both demonstrations will be held in Sun's vendor Jiro technology community booth located in the Pavilion booth 232 at the JavaOne Conference. The integration demonstration will be the focus of session TS-1165 on Friday, June 9, at the JavaOne conference. At this session, the technical highlights of the integration demo will be discussed.
