I don't think 25% of bats have rabies, but you aren't supposed to touch bats with your naked hands. Also, if you find one in your house, this article says you should catch it wearing gloves, put it in something like a coffee can, tape it shut and bring it in for testing.

I agree about the wish to be rid of disease and pain. Sometimes it feels like a full time job. Or maybe I just use it as an excuse. Just taking all the pills I'm supposed to take each day requires an effort. They upset my stomach, so I have to space them out, and take with food. Most days, I don't succeed in taking everything.
