I prefer Vermeer to Rembrandt, and consider Van Dyke and Reubens to represent the decay of Dutch painting.....

I am aghast. Well, not really. I also prefer Vermeer, and also Breugel. Not much on the later ones myself. I especially enjoy Breugel's portrayals of rustic Flemish life. Technically he is not quite as strong as some of the others (he is earlier), but that's my taste. I find Vermeer's strong contrasts and facility with light far more interesting than a lot of the darker stuff, no matter how good it is from a technical standpoint.
