Pull start engines....

I think it is more a matter of quickness than strength, but that is just a guess.

Before my last weed-eater died, the pull cord was so loose that there was no tension until the cord was pulled out about half of its normal length, and yet, it would still start.

Maybe one can do the same thing by pulling the cord out a little and then pull the rest of the length quickly. Might work.
