I would not bet...anything on Microsoft using a putable LEAP. One of the things that is highly neglected, but crucial in analyzing Microsoft is the compnay's use of deferred revenue. When you look at Microsoft's P/E, take into consideration that they historically have deferred a substantial amount of revenue. Additionally, their cost structure now permits them to develop software for almost "no cost" on an accounting basis. But perhaps the best reason to not go against the "dark empire", is the most simplistic. Walk into a CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. and look at all of the software for sell. In their line items, no one touches Microsoft. I do think that using a LEAP on Microsoft is an excellent strategy, but I would go long, i.e. call.
