Emcore to triple manufacturing space for optical, solar cell components By Semiconductor Business News Jun 6, 2000 (9:59 AM) URL: semibiznews.com
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Emcore Corp. today announced plans to expand its operations here for solar cells, optical components, and networking products. The expansion will triple the cleanroom manufacturing capacity at Emcore's site in Sandia Technology Park here. "This significant expansion of our optical components and solar cell business units reinforces our position as a competitive, world-class supplier of compound semiconductor solutions, by allowing for more efficient and cost-effective manufacturing operations," declared Reuben Richards, president and CEO of the company, which is based in Somerset, N.J.
Richards said the expansion is part of Emcore's efforts to "accommodate the accelerated growth in global communications," which include both data and satellite transmission systems. The expansion is expected to be completed by the end of the 2000.
Emcore's plans include the purchase of two additional acres on the west side of its Albuquerque campus. It will also add 36,000 suqare feet of space to the existing 50,000-square-foot facility in the complex. This will allow for one integrated manufacturing site for Emcore's component module and photovoltaic operations.
