I agree with you, X, and I cherish the freedom to create and to view art and books and plays and whatever that are outside the mainstream. By definition, they shock--mildly or profoundly. This is how they make us think and feel in possibly new ways and only time will tell what emerges from the avant-garde to take its place in the mainstream.

I am on the board of a theatre company that does experimental works. I don't like all of what we produce, but I am fascinated at how the works we produce make me think about the world in different ways.
