Actually Cisco is all spin. They don't sell products or generate revenues or earnings. They haven't executed in the enterprise. COMS, CS, LU, NT, IBM all didn't leave the enterprise because of competition - they just didn't need the money. Cisco isn't generating any revenue in the SP space. The recently announced $1B run rate (from relatively nothing a couple years back) is all spin. Cerent, Monterrey, Pirelli, Qeyton, GSR aren't real companies or products either... just vaporware. BTW: What would you have Cisco do to capture expertise in the optical market??? Lets' see.. how about not buy any existing promising companies/start-ups and..uh.... how about they hire some optical engineers out of college and train them... ZO - I mean really... where is Cisco going to go to gain expertise???? They're going to collect talent around the world - which they are doing. Some of that talent is coming from acquisitions... other talent is coming from competitors and I can guarantee you one thing!!! The folks Cisco is hiring away from other companies are GLADLY going to Cisco. I would lay odds that it is the employee's contacting Cisco for work. What should Cisco say??? Oh.. you have only optical engineering expertise... sorry we don't need you. Or better yet... you are working for Alcatel... we can't hire you because the management over there will get mad at us. Sheesh... get a life. What world are you living in? OG
