From a customer's point of view, this company's patronizing attitude toward its customers could only survive in the absence of competition. Adelphia censors what cable channels are available (plenty of death, guns & violence, no playboy). On so-called "user" message boards available for users of the "powerlink" cable modem service, any viewpoint other than bland subservience to the company line is blatantly eliminated - and users are repeatedly lectured about the 1-user/1-computer clause in the contract in postings signed ominously as "Abuse Investigation Team." (Perhaps if I were more convinced they could find their ass using both hands I would be more worried about big brother. <g>) If a user makes the mistake of calling about connectivity problems, question number 1 is "are you using a hub?" (If the answer is "yes" you would have been better off to have connected up to just one computer ahead of your support call.) I believe the correct terminology is 'router' but that is not the point. The point is they are in complete and total denial about a router being the natural point of broadband entry for any but the simplest home computer setup. It is refreshing that DSL is often offered WITH a router included as part of the setup. Of course if Adelphia "Powerlink" is the only mass-market priced broadband available, people (including me) will use it and just do their best to ignore the bad smell from the company. But I suspect these customers will long as I do for a nicely-priced professionally managed alternative.

And I haven't even mentioned reliability. (Psst! It sucks!)

Go DSL-rollout, go! (And of course that is a different 3-stooges episode! <small wry grin>)
