Hi carranza2, I have a quick question (please take it at face value because I claim neutrality in this jihad) about this press release: China Business Briefs: Eastcom, Qualcomm Sign Deal Dow Jones Newswires BEIJING -- China's largest state-owned mobile communications maker, Eastern Communications Co. Ltd. (Q.ECM), Wednesday signed an intellectual property rights agreement with U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) for Code Division Multiple Access, or CDMA, technology. Under the agreement, Eastcom will develop handset and base station prototypes based on Qualcomm's 3G CDMA technology, the company said in a statement. Is it correct that Eastcom is a handset and base station manufacturer and NOT a wireless service operator? It strikes me that a greater victory for QCOM would be an operator in China committing to deploy a CDMA network. A handset and base station manufacturer must sell its merchandise within the domain of the service operator. Perhaps the Chinese are simply preparing to produce merchandise for export. Now I have broken my own rule and posted a Q-centric message on the Nokia message board! My apologies to those desperately seeking Nokia knowledge. Terrapin
