Marketing is abysmal. But sales and support establish and nurture
the customer base. Most sgi customers are repeat customers. From
what I've gathered in comp.sys.sgi.*, sales and support are
incredibly spotty, with most of the nightmares being told by
edu people. Which is ok: we get what we pay for.

I wished we had your salesperson. When it was time to get some
benchmarks done for the grant proposal that eventually gave us
the 20 processor O2000, our sales guy just sat on it. I had to
call a friend at sgi boston to get the machine benchmarked. We
nearly missed the deadline, which would have resulted on a no
sale for 600K$. Some claim the hotline is the greatest support
thing in the market; they NEVER solved one of MY problems, though,
except getting stuff under warranty replaced.

Let's hope they smooth these things out...

Best,
Marcelo
