The May 2000 edition of Global Technology Business Magazine includes a quote from Govin and information on SLMsoft.com in an article titled, ?Bistate, Binary: Kansas City bridges heritage to the digital economy.? The publication interviewed Govin as part of a 12-part series they are doing on companies in ?regions that through their native technology or governmental policies are forging an international commerce conduit.? The May edition is focusing on the Kansas City area, which was chosen because it is in the NAFTA corridor and considered a major link between Canada and Mexico. Following is the SLMsoft.com section from the article, titled "Flying a Maple Leaf," and Govin?s quote:
Flying a Maple Leaf
With 30 offices around the world to choose from, Canada's SLMsoft.com targeted KC as its launching pad for an ASP directed to small and medium-sized banks. As founder and chief executive, Govin Misir explains: "We targeted mid-size banks in the US that don't have the expertise and know-how to bring together the services offered by larger banks. With the software distributed in this model, Metcalf Bank can have all of the services that Citibank has without putting up all of the capital."
These services include: Internet banking, electronic bill payment and Treasury Bond purchase along with ATM, credit card and merchant purchasing software. Outside of the US, SLMsoft.com provides electronic commerce and financial transaction processing offerings to giants such as the Bank of China, the world's 15th largest bank, and 1,500 other clients in 50 countries on five continents.
The lead-in portion of the article includes the following excerpt on K.C.: Scattered VCs and incubators are popping up all over town while bank presidents are resigning to start dot-coms. The technology companies in the area form a tight vortex that in the crisp plains air propels a gust of prosperity and business development.
