Nokia Introduces its First Home Gateway Product for U.S. and Canada

High-Speed, Multi-Device Internet Connectivity for the Home.


ATLANTA,June 5, 2000--Nokia today announced the release of its first Home Gateway product, the MW 1122, which provides high-speed, wireless Internet connectivity and access to multiple devices within the home.

By combining two communications technologies - Wireless LAN (WLAN) and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line(ADSL)the Nokia MW 1122 simplifies access to data services by providing multimegabit, wireless connectivity for several interoperable devices.

"The home and office environments are an integral part of the Mobile Information Society. As more households acquire multiple computing devices and appliances, the demand for easy and convenient ways to network these devices will increase dramatically

Nokia is developing new and innovative solutions that address the growing consumer demand for broadband multimedia services within the home,'' said Kevin Jones,Vice-President, Nokia Home Communications, North America.

"The new MW 1122 home gateway is an ideal solution for the small office or home office environment."

The Nokia MW 1122 is a precursor to a number of even more sophisticated Home Gateway networking solutions. By bringing together voice, Internet and broadcast services, the Nokia Home Gateway product family will provide future homes with the unique ability to access and manage all of their multimedia services from one central communications device.

Nokia will continue to focus on the development of home networking solutions to provide entertainment, information and media delivery (video, audio or multimedia) throughout the home. Nokia utilizes the broadband infrastructure to provide a number of innovative multimedia services within the home.


Nokia fulfills an important part of the Global IP Mobility Strategy -- Internet regardless of time or place.
