I actually hate all of the investor conferences. I see your point about the advantage of the smaller ones, we just get most of our information directly from the key industry oriented shows rather than from management dog and pony expos.

I have yet to hear a management own up to a massive strategic mistake, slowing market growth or wildly irate customers...until I do, we'll do our work in the field and away from the managements with rose colored pupils. (I don't even want to discuss brokerage research.)

Sometimes, I think that half of the management teams actually truly believe the B.S. they try to feed us.

There have been a number of situations when our field work uncovered real problems in the market well before the management knew their were issues. (And sadly a number of times when problems showed up before the management knew and before we knew too!)

Bottom line, I like the investor conferences for introductions to new areas, but we rarely take anything management says at face value.
