I'm still not sure how this comment relates to my post.
OK, one more time. I'm talking about the black/white thing again. You said to me:
Being a leader requires you to demonstrate certain skills of leadership and management. Hiring competent or incompetent people to run your affairs reflects on your leadership ability. Being the President of the United States is a leadership position. If nothing else, the issue reflects on Gore's leadership abilities and is therefore newsworthy.
Meanwhile Rambi was, in several posts, concurrently professing her distaste for Al while sticking up for him on the slumlord matter.
And I responded to you:
Michael, issues are like football games. The final score is rarely 12 or 20 or 24 to nothing. Both teams score. Both teams make mistakes. The winning quarterback usually has at least one interception. Do you say that he lacks leadership? I'll bet that Rambi can watch a Cowboys/Redskins game and occasionally acknowledge a really good play by the Skins, even while rooting for the Boys. Doing so doesn't make her a Redskins fan, it makes her objective.
What I was trying to do was to illustrate, through the football analogy, the difference between the example of your apparent black/white thinking and the example of Rambi's apparent objectivity. Apparently unsuccessfully. That's OK. I'll go straight at it.
The rarity of the shutout was intended to illustrate how people, missions, administrations, whatever, seldom exhibit perfection on one side and absolute imperfection on the other. The losing team usually scores some points and the winning team usually messes up some opportunities. Whether or not Al knew or should have known about the maintenance problem, he (or anyone else) should be allowed to have an occasional interception and still be a leader. No one says Dan Marino is not a leader. To suggest that this one toilet event disqualifies him for the Presidency or warrants massive media TV coverage is IMO black/ white thinking. This is in contrast to Rambi's support on this matter of someone she doesn't support for the Presidency. I tried to illustrate this by saying she could appreciate a particularly good play by the Redskins, the arch-rival of her hometown team.
That's all.
Not important.
