If Shakespeare were alive, he'd write a play about Bill Gates. How many things did Microsoft do over the last two years to convince first the DOJ and then the judge that they had to be broken up?

I once watched a TV documentary about some punk who got arrested on a minor charge. He then didn't show up in court. Being in contempt, the cops got a warrant for his arrest. He resisted arrest, and got locked up for a year. He was still in jail more than a year later because he kept getting into fights in prison. Bump up the guy's IQ a hundred points, remove the propensity for violence, add a dash of good luck, and you have the Bill Gates story.

Oh well, it would have been nice to see a debate over all the interesting issues that we debated on this thread over the years. But as the new-age psychotherapists say, we only have control over our own behaviors.

Here's to the incredible gains in technology and software design that I predict will happen as small entrepeneurs and their venture capitalists slowly stop worrying about being killed off by Microsoft. It's already happened in some areas of technology, now it will also happen in the office application and OS markets.
