Scumbria,

It takes longer to retrieve data from an off-chip device, than it does from an on-chip device. This is because it takes a large number of clocks to synchronize the bus, send the request on an external bus, and retrieve the data back.

What would be lost with a larger, slower on-chip cache vs a smaller, faster on-chip cache? For the comparison, suppose that the slower cache was 10X bigger or more.
