That article briefly mentions a new, privately held company with product not yet being sold to the mass market that will be using streaming technology to deliver apps. Does anyone know if this will be a competing technology for Citrix? If so, how likely is it that it will be formidable? This technology does pose a challenge to Citrix, though not directly. Basically, this technology could solve one of the problems with downloading of Java apps, namely the slow download time. By streaming an application, it makes it possible to start running the app as soon as the initialization code is downloaded. The rest of the app downloads while the initialization code is running. Such an approach would provide quicker startup time, which is one advantage that Citrix has over other types of apps. On the surface, this approach would still require larger amounts of memory and more power CPU's at the client since the logic would be running there. This could limit the types of devices that it would be feasible for. Is it formidable.... too early to tell. It is definately an interesting idea that bears watching. Heeren
