Hi John, I didn't want it to go too long, so I posted a retraction there myself. And agreed, a small voltage can be multiplied, stepped up and stored for use, like an old fashioned flash device that takes 6 volts and boosts it to 900 volts through the use of a multivibrator and a step-up transformer. Zap.

But I think that the possibilities for a legitimate model of the type we thought we had here will soon exist in the flesh. The papers that Dave Horne cited going back to 1993 indicate that they were close to a solution then, but nor quite there yet, at that time. A lot's happened since then that should bring the technology over the top, IMO.. either over the same strand, in one way or another, or over a second siamese-attached fiber member.

But I'd draw some distinctions and establish some caveats, in comparison to what we 'thought' we had here. The arrangement would only be used for a single voice line, conceivably, and on a default basis only during power outages. And NOT used for powering the total number of termination devices at the residence at all times. That, I'm very near certain, will be doable.
