Starbase Announces StarSync -- StarTeam's New
StarSync Deploys Code and Content at Internet Speed While Providing Secure Encryption and Authentication Protection

June 8, 2000 08:42 AM Eastern Time
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 2000--

Starbase Corp. SBAS , the leading provider of collaboration products for the creation and management of integrated code and content eBusiness applications, Thursday announced the availability of StarSync, a Java(TM)-based digital asset deployment utility for StarTeam.

StarSync deploys and synchronizes code and content from a StarBase Server to target locations, including the Web. StarSync delivers an automated publishing and deployment process, designed to manage high volumes of software and Web content changes. Code and content is protected using encryption and authentication to safeguard transmission through public networks. StarSync is an integrated member of the newly expanded StarTeam family of products.

"Single Web sites no longer run on only one server or even under one kind of operating system," said Mark Burgess, president of sandiego.com. "We need centralized management and deployment of both code and content across heterogeneous server platforms. StarTeam provides powerful process control and change management capabilities for our complex and highly distributed Web environment, and now StarSync gives us the ability to quickly and easily deploy these changes to our servers -- whether it's code, graphics or even database formats."

StarSync's seamless integration with the Starbase Server enables the straightforward deployment of any configuration of a Web site or Web site components. StarSync provides StarTeam users with an easily scriptable deployment utility that is configurable for deploying digital assets to local and remote file systems, or to the Web via an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site. StarSync supports the delivery of code and content to heterogeneous platforms and can also be used to support process automation.

For example, as code and content is created by one team it can be scheduled for automatic delivery by StarSync to the next team in the process for review and approval. Digital assets can be kept in several locations and regularly synchronized throughout the development lifecycle.

"StarSync provides eBusinesses with a powerful, affordable, and easy to use publishing and deployment solution," said Lydia Patterson, vice president Starbase products group. "StarSync can be used to directly publish static content to the Web via an FTP site, or more importantly, it can be used to deploy code and content to our strategic partners' Web servers for high-end dynamic content publishing. Robust and flexible, StarSync provides a single solution for organizations to manage the deployment of both code and Web content to different target environments."

Patterson continued, "For example, StarSync can move code and content from the development environment to the test environment, and from the test environment to the production environment. Any digital asset stored in the Starbase Server can be deployed to a file server or a Web server. This automatic deployment capability will have a significant impact on the eBusiness application development process, improving quality and accelerating delivery time."

StarSync's multi-platform, Java-based command line interface provides a powerful mechanism to access and automate the deployment of code and content to one or multiple, local or remote server locations. As a Java-based solution, StarSync can be run on any system supporting a Java runtime environment, enabling global deployment. StarSync facilitates enhanced management and control over the distribution of code and content to one or multiple Web servers or file systems, and provides secure encryption and authentication protection which safeguards the transmission of content through public networks.
