Re: Much More on Vertigo

Heeren- I don't recall your opinion on where you think Vertigo will be taking CTXS. I would enjoy hearing what it is.

Recently I did stumble across some more information(before CTXS seemed to shut down info) on Vertigo while getting ready to throw out their 1998 annual report. Within the report, they weren't so secretive about Vertigo because it was a recent acquisition and they wanted to explain it. Here's what they say verbatim:

"APM Purchase- The in-process research and development acquired in the APM acquisition consisted primarily of one significant reseacrh and development porject. The project is a Windows NT-based application server for Java, which is similar to WinFrame software, but actually runs Java applications. At the date of the acquisition, APM was shipping a secure server-based enterprise solution that helped companies deploy and manage intranet and Internet-based Java appliations. The company esimtates this project was less than 47% complete at the date of acquisition."

As you may recall, Ray pointed out upstream that Vertigo is the code name given by Citrix for the above project. Since it appears the speculation that dreydoc, Ray, and I were conjuring up, appears to be accurate, what do you make of this project? And where do you see it taking Citrix?.....whoops. Upon some quick back tracking, I see Ray said Vertigo was an offshoot of their 'Viewsoft' acquisition. Not 'APM.' But this is to strange of a conincidence for APM and Viewsoft acquisitions not to be related. So I'll leave the above.

For future reference, here are somewhat handy dandy recent chronological links about Vertigo:

And here's a very interesting comment from dreydoc. dreydoc believed at the time, that ICA was not the transport protocol for their Viewsoft project. I won't add anymore to dreydoc's comments because it would get to confusing. I just happened to find it while gathering up the above and I thought I would post it too:

And lo and behold, if my memory wasn't so bad, I would have remembered that I already made a connection almost one year ago between APM and Viewsoft. This post, albeit one year old, may shed the most light on what Vertigo is about:
