Yes, "millions" of times more productivity is a pretty heavy handed positive future estimation to back-up, IMO too. Particularly considering Gilders own well expounded "time of life" limit. Still, the basic notion that productivity gains are actually being understated, may well withstand arguments here to the contrary, particularly when talking "real" economic productivity gains.
The ultimate positive view might be the one of a future earth as presented in the Star Trek The Next Generation series, where earthlings have most needs easily satisfied, crime is nearly non-existent, and there is technology to thank. A real world similar example of this today might be Rekjavic(sp?) Iceland, where crime is minimal, and the natural steam power providing for energy needs at costs nearly free, is there to thank.
