This is just my opinion and it's highly speculative, but wouldn't it be cool if this was a one-two punch. Zip's in their consumer desktop line and their laptop line. One can only hope.

Notes from PC Expo: Pulled from ZD Net

NEW YORK--Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. chief Tom Scott yesterday at PC Expo officially disclosed his company's plans to enter the desktop PC market in the United States this year.

Scott, vice president and general manager of Toshiba's Computer Systems Division, in Irvine, Calif., said the company will release a line of desktops geared toward the consumer market in the fall.

The notebook maker will follow that announcement in the first quarter of 1997 with a family of PCs designed for the corporate user as well, Scott said.

Toshiba will try to capitalize on its success in the notebook
industry--a market in which the company has lead exclusively for almost two years--as it transforms the company into a one-stop shop for notebook and desktop PCs, Scott said.

The need for Toshiba to offer PCs is there, he said. "We have
customers telling us they like the Toshiba experience" and want
to work further with Toshiba, Scott said.
