Mexico has a lot going for it and times are good right now to take advantage if the leaders have the will for it.
Soon, if Fox wins, we shall see the strength of that will, however, not an easy task.
I have a real fondness for Mexico. I spent a semester there in 1963 when I was young and impressionable.
You went on one of the best periods of its history, life then, was easy and anybody that wanted to work hard would make money... as for impressionable... if you went today, I am sure you would get impressed, (not necessarily in a positive way), but believe me, you would be impressed *g*
The pollution in the DF was terrible then. I understand it's unbearable now. I imagine everything is even more brutish. So sad.
Not to concentrate on the negative... but "unberable" is a major understatement. If you can avoid it, do not go to DF the pollution is undescribable.
A warning to rampant, uncontrolled growth of population and industry without regards to the environment. (China comes to mind too. On a stretch between Shangai and the city of Hangzchou a 300 kmt stretch, I saw house after house dumping open raw sewage into canals all along the train ride... imagine what it will be when full fledged "progress" will fuel growth in China). I do not expect [hope ?] Mexico will get that bad.
Yes, brutish is a good word, and it does not matter how wealthy you are, once you are on the street, you are exposed to the same environment.
It might work, but it couldn't happen
You are probably correct... but what will happen along the border is not going to be pretty.
See, things have improved.
Ever heard of "dead cat bounces" ? *g*
I've not yet been to Baja California
Baja is a sort of hidden paradise, thanks, for the most part to the lack of available potable water, and the resulting underdevelopment of most of the territory. In short it is beautiful, and they say that the golf courses & resorts at Los Cabos are superb ! |
