Fox will take it, i think eh

I do believe he will, and that is the beginning for a serious attempt to improve things.

Overall i am of course for Fox but am uncomfortable with the degree to which he is religious

Yes, my very same fear, particularly now that the wall of separation between state and the padrecitos have been lifted. Having said that... (with a few exceptions, such as the evil "Opus Dei", I have NEVER seen in Mexico the caliber of wacko-zealots that one finds in the fauna of the US religious landscape).

his mexicanidad is questionable [something wildly symbolic in him being the ex-jefe of CocaCola, lol]

Ah, now you are the paranoic... being the Supremo of a corporation has nothing to do with the "mexicanidad", besides, as you say, that's only a symbol, the pudding is what I would be interested in, the results.

Still, if he can end the rule of the pri¡stas, he's the man, there is no better choice available.

Exactly ! All trips begin with the first step.

whether Fox could change this within his sexenio is another matter though ...

of course not, but again, it is a beginning.

you no longer routinely offer a clerk 'algo pa' tu refresco' to speed up some papers in a palacio de gobierno, for example ... it can be taken as an insult or attempt at entrapment ... this is a major change over the last few years ... it goes along with the expectations of reasonable levels of service on the part of quite ordinary people, a realisation of rights ...

Yes, it is true that in some areas that is improving, and that too is a start.

you and i know it's not going to happen ... they are two very different nations with strong and distinct identities, and could not agree on mutually acceptable terms ... there is more to the strong feeling than the manipulation by the politicians, much more ... though that has been a factor, for sure, in both nations ...

You, as well as Karen, are probably right... but it is always good to have such threat on the Mexicanos *g* Maybe so, they will learn to behave...

i would be much more open to consideration of an alliance, even a confederation, with Canada, personally ... no baggage with that one, no threat.

Ah see, now ideas begin to flow... yes, I like that, good synergies amongst the two... warm beaches for the Great White North, and lots of snow for the Mexicas, a way to populate the Yukon and the NW reducing Mexico's total population. Not a bad idea !

Vancouver Island ...

The Bouchard Gardens is what I would like to see, soon perhaps.
