Likewise, famed venture capitalist John Doerr, of Kleiner Perkins & Caufield, has frequently said he will never compete with Microsoft again. Mr Doerr was an early investor in Netscape Corp.,whose Web browser lost a bruising battle with Microsoft that became the basis for the antitrust case.
But Mr Doerr is an investor and board member of HANDSPRING inc., whose hand-held organizers use palm inc operating system that competes with Microsoft's pocket pc software.
Mr Doerr says he doesn't consider Microsoft a serious competitor in the market for hand-held operating systems, at least not yet.
