Hi blake_paterson; You wrote: "Via = Research? Develops technology? ROTFLMAO! Now you've said it all pal. When are you coming back to the good old USA, where technology is developed, not copied?"

Yeah, VIA develops technology. That's why they got so much of the chipset business from Intel. They're planning on getting 50% of the world's PC chipset business by December, I believe.

I've been getting the definite impression that you think I've been in Taiwan. Actually, I've never been there. I hate travelling, airports, and most especially, long flights. Who cares where I am, anyway?

But the reason I have to respond to this post is because of your statement that in the good old USA, technology is developed, not copied.

Actually, if you go do a search for patents on DRAM, you will find that the vast majority of them are held by Asia based companies. Now some of these have design firms in the US, but the majority of patents in DRAM are held by companies outside the US, and just by looking casually at the names of the inventors, I would guess that the majority of them were developed by inventors outside the US.

Right now, there is a bit of a hubris in the US regarding technology. This is something that comes and goes. I can remember arguing the other side back when people here were convinced that the Japanese were invincible. Nope, the world is populated only with humans, no giants, no dwarves.
