Ann,
Im my opinion your question doesn't have an answer, or shall we say the answer varies from person to person, age to age.................
Let me site an example: You are 65, you have invested for 30 years, your sitting on a pile of what I call intelectual property,( uncashed gains from 30 years of investment.)
From here you have zillions of senerios that vary from person to person:
1. You have a comfortable retirment pay, no children, no debits, and your in a good health,(you feel you can camp for another 10 years.)
You can cash in 10% of your stock portfolgio and invest it inot bonds, give it to parish priest, rebuild the local Beth El, or whatever.
2. You have kids, your retirement pay is comfortable but you have 2 bypasses began to have thoughts about eternity(G G G !) ...
The list can go on for ever, you do what is right for you becasue there are no clichÅ .
I like to know if Frank, in his wisdom, can comment on this.
Good luck and long life,
