Frank as always you have given much to think about and I will get back to you. FWIF I did find an interesting quote in a Morgan Stanley piece on AVNX. "CEO Walter Allesandrini believes that then use of holographic gratings could drive down the cost per channel [of dwdm] from about $500 to $250." I am still trying to learn more about Holographix's crystals which provide "an alternative to thin film filter." An earlier report suggested the technology would allow the creation of a "master" holographic filter from which production runs could be made. Dear old dad was a thin film man and I spent one summer in high-school in the lab. Thin films become increasingly complex the finer the wavelength passed. A single filter is required for each frequency. And as I recall glass breaks. I am now treading in a region of anectdotes. Supposedly, the Holographic filter can pass different wavelegths at different locations. This could be interesting.

Also in the FWIF category, there has been a debate over all-optic vs OeO and the role of routers over on the Ciena thread that is worth a look. It may be rudimentary for you, but I found it insightful sparring.

Regards
Steve
