THose are wonderful quotes, Taz
Indeed they are. I particularly like the first one: "We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart." That's a keeper.
Rambi, you have kids. I never had to deal with the question of religious education. I would certainly discourage anyone who was considering raising kids Catholic, but there are less strenuous and cloying religions. Do you think it's hypocritical to teach kids about religion much we teach them about Santa Claus?
If the thread will indulge me one more anecdote on this subject:
Other than funerals and tourism, I haven't been in a church since I was a teenager. The last time was an Easter service at a Unitarian church in my college town. Most of the students had gone home for the holidays and there were just a few of us left in the dorm. Someone I knew only slightly invited me to join her for services. I, of course, gave her my spiel about religion, which was much like Tazio's. She countered that I might find this quite different, so I went with her our of curiosity. It was sure different! Very intellectual, not mystical. The sermon was on, would you believe, why Christ *didn't* rise from the dead. LOL. If I had had any interest at all in participating in religion, I would have signed up there.
