Taiwan Likely to Enter WTO in September: MAC Deputy Chief
Taipei, June 9 (CNA) Newly-appointed Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet-level Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Teng Chen-chung said on Friday that Taiwan will probably gain admittance into the World Trade Organization (WTO) in September.
Teng, however, said that the timing of Taiwan's WTO entry will depend on how quickly mainland China gains acceptance into the international trade-governing organization.

Teng, who assumed his duties on Wednesday, noted that the Republic of China maintains close economic relations with the United States, which has always supported the ROC's bids for membership in the WTO and the Asian Pacific Economic Council (APEC).

Teng has held many important posts in the Board of Foreign Trade (BOFT), and was the director of the Economic Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C. prior to his new appointment.

The MAC has three deputy chiefs, who respectively head the legal, economic and administrative business of the body.
