SAN FRANCISCO, Jun 9, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Quicknet Technologies, Inc., the
leader in low-density Internet Telephony products, today announced its backing
of the Internet Freedom Rally. Scheduled for June 11, 2000 in Washington DC, the
Internet Freedom Rally is designed to draw attention to telecom lobby efforts
that threaten new taxes on the Internet through an amendment to the recently
passed House Bill HR 1291.

"The Internet is widely considered the single greatest force driving today's
expanding economy," stated Stacey Reineccius, president of Quicknet
Technologies, Inc. "Now, HR 1291 threatens to impose a tax on voice traffic over
the Internet, potentially stifling one of the fastest growing and most popular
services available on this new communication medium. In addition to inhibiting
Internet business, enforcement of the bill could require monitoring Internet
traffic, raising grave concerns regarding the privacy of Internet
communications."

The recently passed house bill HR1291 frees the Internet at large from
regulation, but allows the FCC to regulate Internet telephony. In addition to
eliminating free phone and fax calls placed over the Internet, the bill raises
the potential of forcing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to begin monitoring
Internet connections for voice traffic in order to charge users properly. The
FCC regulation is the direct result of lobbying efforts by the US Telephone
Association for a last minute amendment to a bill originally sponsored by
Representative Fred Upton and intended to ban telephone access fees on ISP's.

The Internet Freedom Rally will be taking place at the West Capital area in
Washington, DC on Sunday, June 11, 2000 from 12 - 4 PM. Entertainment will be
provided by the Voices of Classic Rock, an assembly of some of the most
important and influential "voices" of the Classic Rock movement of the 70's and
80's.
