Is your implication that somehow mothers circumscribe this function in fathers? I would rather bet that many mothers will tell you that many men see fit to circumscribe these functions themselves, particularly during the early years of childrearing. Many men don't seem desire much of a function in this activity, so it seems to me a bit disingenuous if they whine about it later. I recently read a report that indicates that even in situations where both the mother and father are working full-time, the mother does about four to five times the hourly amount of "childrearing" activity as the father. I rather doubt that this is by motherly intent.
